'A' and 'NP' in Chronology Caption/Label (Level 2) in
ADVANCE 6.8

THE DIFFERENCES IN USAGE OF 'A' AND 'NP' IN CHRONOLOGY CAPTION/LABEL LEVEL 2

A in Level 2 of Chronology Caption/Label is used when we know that the issues will have some type of wording in it, but we are not sure what it will be.

For example:
v. 1 no. 1 (2001:Feb.)
v. 1 no. 2 (2001:June/July)
v. 1 no. 3/4 (2001: fall/winter)
v. 2 no. 1 (2002:Jan.1)

This is an instance where we would use A. Our expected issues after the first one is checked in will appear as:

v. 1 no. 1 (2001:Feb)
v. 1 no. 2 (2001:)
v. 1 no. 3 (2001:)
v. 1 no. 4 (2001:)
v. 2 no. 1 (2002:)

You will notice that after the year, there is a colon and the parentheses are closed. This will let the user as well as the receiver know that there will be some sort of chronology for level 2.

NP in Level 2 of Chronology Caption/Label is used when we are not sure if the issues will have some type of wording in it.

For example:
v. 27 no. 1 (2001:Jan.)
v. 27 no. 2 (2001:June/July)
v. 27 no. 3 (2001:fall)
v. 27 no. 4 (2001/2002)
v. 28 no. 1 (2002)
v. 28 no. 2 (2002:summer)

This is an instance where we would use NP. Our expected issues after the first one is checked in will appear as:

v. 27 no. 1 (2001:Jan.)
v. 27 no. 2 (2001)
v. 27 no. 3 (2001)
v. 27 no. 4 (2001)
v. 28 no. 1 (2002)
v. 28 no. 2 (2002)

You will notice that after the year, there is NO colon and the parentheses are closed. This will let the user as well as the receiver know that the one thing we are certain of is the year. The issues may or may not have a chronology for level 2.
