STUDY COLLECTION

In the Autumn of 1998, a new "Study Collection" was established after many months of planning and preparation. This is a non-circulating collection housed on the Mezzanine (open stacks) which consists of selected primary texts for the study of history, culture and literature. The Study Collection was initiated as a response to the needs of our graduate students by providing a core collection for their use. These books have been chosen for their strong tie-in to the NYU curriculum and for their long-term interest.

Study Collection materials will be treated like any other priority Reference location with the following specifications (item record):

Location = Bobst
Collection = REF1
Call # prefix = Study
Call # suffix = Non-circulating
Circ code = BREFS

Prefix on labels = BREFS

All books should be stamped "Non-circulating" and will have an orange sticker along the bottom edge of the spine which reads "STUDY" in black letters.

Reference would like to keep close track of all new titles. Therefore, we do not send Study Collection materials out of Cataloging through the customary channel. We batch them and keep them aside on a separate truck. Reference staff (currently Linda Johnson) is notified either weekly or whenever we have a fair amount ready to be shelved. These materials are shelved by staff in Reference.
