Rebind Procedures in
ADVANCE 6.8

  1. Retrieve bound volume from the stacks

  2. Retrieve issue needing to be bound

  3. If item is already barcoded, send an e-mail to Donna Bradley in Preservation (dmb4@nyu.edu). Ask her to please supply a replacement barcode. In the body of the e-mail message, run your barcoding wand over the barcode of the bound volume. It will appear on the message (saves time from having to type in all those numbers). Along with your name, let her know what department you work in so she knows where to send the replacement barcode.
Students---please ask a staff member to do this step!!!

  4. Go to "Checkin serials" for the title

  5. Even though the status for the volume says "Bound", change status of the bound issues for that volume to "Received" (check-in), along with issue needing to be bound

  6. Go to "Serial copy display". In the SERIAL COPY SET SUMMARY select the location you are working with.

  7. In the SERIAL COPY SET DETAIL Go to "Binding list", then "Update", then send the item back out to bindery by changing 'In Bindery' status to Y. Then file

  8. Fill out bindery slip, writing "Rebind" in the Instructions box. If the item was already barcoded continue with steps 9 and 10 and on the bottom of the instructions box initial and write
    students-please use barcode
If the item was not barcoded continue to step 11.

Please press hard as we will need this on all copies of the bindery slip.

  9. Obtain a yellow bindery flag and place the replacement barcode on the bindery flag

  10. Staple bindery flag to Library Copy 2 of the bindery slip (the white copy which we file)

  11. Rubber band bound volume with issue needing to be rebound

  12. File bindery slip

  13. Box up the volume needing to be rebound

IF YOU ARE REBINDING AN ITEM THAT ALREADY HAS A BARCODE, PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO OBTAIN A REPLACEMENT BARCODE FROM DONNA. THIS HAS CAUSED A LOT OF PROBLEMS AS THE STUDENTS WILL USE A NEW BARCODE AND IT IS AN INCREDIBLE HASSLE TO DELETE A BARCODE
