Procedures for cataloging/processing
Cooper books designated "Library use only"

Cooper Union has a collection of books which they have designated as "Library Use Only". These materials do not circulate; and they are shelved with the regular circulating collection. (If a student attempts to check the item out they will be informed that the item must remain in the library) These items should arrive for cataloging with a Catalog Maintenance Request Form clearly indicating that they are intended for "Library Use Only".

When handling these items the following will hold true:

  1. In the pieces record:
    • Circ. code - COPLU
    • Suffix - Non-circulating
  1. On the labels:
    • No distinctive prefix will be used (COPLU, although pencilled on the title page verso, does not transfer to the spine labels)

Although these materials are interfiled with the regular circulating collection, Cooper does have other collections which are shelved separately, i.e., Reference, Reserve, and Closed Stacks.
