BOOKS ACCOMPANIED BY DISKETTE OR CD-ROM (NON-MUSIC)*

*Note: This guideline applies only when an accompanying CD-ROM is not a sound recording (music) CD.

A book with an accompanying piece of software, i.e., 3 1/2" diskette or CD-ROM, will be cataloged as a book. The bibliographic record should contain specific information relating to the accompanying material.

006 field -- Some records may not have an 006 field; create one, if needed. Place your cursor within the record where you want to add the field. Type "006," and the cursor will move automatically to the first position in the field. Type "m." You can add the coding directly to record from this point, or double click on the "m" to open the 006 editing box.

Type of 006 code:"m" -- always use "m"
Target audience:"blank"
Type of computer file:"b" if a computer program
"d" if a computer document (contains text only)
"i" if interactive multimedia
"u" if unknown
Government publication:"blank" if not a government publication
"f" if issued by Federal/National government
"s" if issued by State/Provincial/Territory, etc. government

300 field -- Include a description of the accompanying diskette or CD-ROM in $e.

     300     308 p. : $b ill. ; $c 27 cm. + $e 1 computer disk (3 1/2 in.)
     300     214 p. : $b ill. ; $c 24 cm. + $e 1 computer optical disc (4 3/4 in.)

538 field -- System requirements note for accompanying diskette/CD. Retain, but do not create if not present.

500 field -- Accompanying material note, e.g., CD-ROM in pocket.

See lcn=12156960 for an online example.

A Pieces record will be created for the book only. The diskette/CD-ROM will not be barcoded and will not receive a separate item entry.

If the book does not contain an adequate pocket to hold the diskette/CD-ROM, it should be noted as such on a bindery slip, and directed to the attention of the Bindery.
