"Bind as Received" Procedures in
ADVANCE 6.8

NOTE: Part-time and temporary serials staff should not check in these materials. They should be referred to full-time serials receivers.

  1. The copyset notes will indicate that the title is to be bound upon receipt, i.e., "Bind as Received".

  2. Receive the item and then change status to 'In Bindery'.

  3. Write the call number on the title page verso in pencil. Do not write it on a label.

  4. Date-stamp the volume on the title page in the upper right handed corner using a small stamper (NOT the large ones with Bobst Serials in a box.)
    exp. SEP 28 2002

  5. Pull the binding slip. Check for spelling and call number errors before filling out the slip. Fill in the requested information i.e. volume, year, numbers etc. If the title should go to a special location put a note indicating the location in the lower left hand corner of the slip. If the title is analyzed or circulates, make sure that information is also in the note area of the binding slip.

  6. Enter the date of the next bindery shipment as indicated. The bindery slip had four parts, the top two (white and yellow copies) are insterted in the volume to be bound. The pink slip is discarded and the last white copy is filed in the out to bindery box in date and alphabetical order.

  7. Put a rubber band around each volume to be bound and put it in the box according to the account number. Keep count of volumes put in each box and indicate totals on the account slips in the outside of the boxes.

  8. Part-time workers will update these items as they come back from the bindery.
