One of the great short short fiction writers, Peter Cherches is also a singer and performance artist. His short short fictions gathered in Condensed Book present complete narratives of usually less that one page. The stories, carefully wrought with close attention to the language, often employ irony, wit, and surreal elements. Cherches was also editor of Zone, a magazine that, with Benzene, published many of writers in the downtown scene.
