Increased enrollment in the Collegiate Division leads to the establishment of a four-year, coeducational liberal arts college, known as Washington Square College.

Wall Street Division of the School of Commerce opens, initially at Broad Street and later at Trinity Place.

The Graduate School of Business Administration is founded to offer graduate business instruction in the Wall Street area of Manhattan.

The United States enters World War I, causing NYU enrollment to substantially decline from 789 students at University Heights campus in February 1917 to 238 civilian students by October 1918.

Apr: Establishment of National Army Training Detachment/ Students Army Training Corps at NYU.

Dec 20: The School of Retailing created, offering business courses in retail management.
