NYU's administration holds recruitment for the Dow Chemical Company in an off-campus loft owned by NYU and guarded by NYU security and NYC police to avoid a possible sit-in - the tactical strategy used by NYU student protesters in the November 1967 protest against Dow.

Some 500 students respond by picketing the recruitment site and marching to Vanderbilt Hall, where they hold a rally and meet with Chancellor Cartter. Cartter reveals plans to set up a committee to study the entire issue of job recruitment.
