Below you will find a brief listing of volunteer opportunities in the New York City area. If you need further assistance, please contact our office at lgbt.office@nyu.edu

 

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Community Center- on this page you will find a list of current volunteer needs in a variety of areas along with an online volunteer application.

 

The Door- Youth agency serving 12-21 year olds in the NYC area. Volunteer opportunity areas include: academics, arts, recreation, ESL and college.

 

The Samaritans- NYC 24-hour suicide prevention program. Volunteers would be on call to respond to those in crisis needing someone to talk to.

 

Callen-Lorde Community Health Center- Provides health care and services to the LGBT community in NYC. Callen-Lorde, welcomes volunteers who are certified/licensed as the following: Medical Providers, Nurses and Medical Assistants, Social Workers / Psychotherapists. In addition, volunteers are needed for their peer educator program.

 

Gay Men’s Health Crisis- A community-based organization dedicated towards the education and prevention of AIDS. On this page you will find a list of volunteer opportunities as well as an online application.

 

Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services- A mental health and social services agency serving families of various religious, ethnic, socioeconomic backgrounds. On this page you will find a listing of volunteer opportunities as well as an online application.

 

Bronx AIDS Services- AIDS services organization located in the Bronx . Volunteer opportunities include: pantry services, office support, and advocacy.

 

New York City Health and Hospital Corporation- Volunteer at one of the many medical facilities in the NYC area. Opportunities include: R eading aloud or writing letters, escorting patients to and from activities, assisting occupational and physical therapists, assisting with art therapy programs, assisting chaplains, providing entertainment, playing with children and babies, tutoring pediatric patients, etc. 

 

The Bronx Lesbian and Gay Health Resource Center- A center located in the Bronx dedicated toward educating and providing health resource for the LGBT community. Opportunities include: Tabling at health fairs and other community events, community Outreach, health Link Line attendee, mailings, newsletter development, website development, etc.

 

Anti-Violence Project-An organization dedicated to assisting LGBT survivors (or others affected) by violence. On this page you will find information about volunteer opportunities, requirements, and an application form.

 

Hetrick-Martin Institute- HMI provides resource to LGBT youth between the ages of 12 and 21. In addition, this is the home of the Harvey Milk High School . For information about volunteer opportunities please contact HMI at (212) 674-2400.
