Kimmel Center | Shorin Music & Dance Performance Center

The Shorin Music & Dance Performance Center is located on the 6th floor of the Kimmel Center. It consists of seventeen individual practice rooms, two studios for three to five performers, two rehearsal suites for larger ensembles of up to twenty performers, and one dance studio. All performance spaces are furnished with music stands, mirrors, and chairs. Most rooms have pianos.


  1.0 MANAGEMENT

The Kimmel Operations office reserves practice, studio, and rehearsal space at the Shorin Music & Dance Performance Center, for the University community. Kimmel Operations also maintains the instruments, equipment, and performance facilities at the Shorin Center.

The Kimmel Operations office is located in room 605 of the Kimmel Center for University Life and can be reached by phone at (212) 998-4900. E-mail should be addressed to kimmel.shorin@nyu.edu.


  2.0 RESERVATIONS

2.1 Priority Bookings
NYU students who are music or dance majors receive priority bookings provided that their school - the Steinhardt School; Faculty of Arts and Science; Tisch School of the Arts - has identified them as music or dance majors. Each of the academic programs is responsible for submitting a list of eligible students to Kimmel Operations. These students will be deemed eligible to make priority reservations, exclusively, during the first three weeks of classes. Priority bookings may be made for up to three one-hour practice sessions per month for the academic semester.

2.2 General Bookings
Any NYU student, staff or faculty member may reserve practice rooms. Student performance clubs must be registered with the Office of Student Activities to reserve studio space. Any student, staff or faculty member may reserve up to two one-hour practice sessions per month for one academic semester at a time.

2.3 Reserving Shorin Space
Reservations can be made by
Kimmel One Stop. Priority bookings will be made during the first three weeks of classes. General bookings can be made commencing the fourth week of classes.

A minimum of three NYU performers is required to reserve studio space. All performers must be present in order to occupy the space and all must present an NYU photo ID. A minimum of six NYU performers is required to reserve rehearsal space. All performers must be present in order to occupy the space and all must present an NYU photo ID.

2.3.1 Notification
You will be notified about your Shorin bookings by e-mail. You may also confirm your bookings by checking the daily schedule at the Kimmel Operations office.


  3.0 ACCESS TO PRACTICE ROOMS

3.1  To obtain access to a practice room for the reserved time go to Kimmel Operations, room 605 and exchange NYU ID cards for a key.

3.2 At the end of the session complete the log in the room reporting any problems with instruments, equipment or space.

3.3 Kimmel Operations will check the rooms during the day.

  4.0 SHORIN POLICIES

4.1 All Kimmel Center Policies and Procedures apply except Section 4.0 ( room reservation procedures).

4.2  The practice rooms are to be used for music or dance practice only.

4.3 Smoking and eating are not allowed in the rooms.

4.4 Water bottles are not to be placed on pianos or left in rooms after exiting.

4.5 Practice rooms cannot be exchanged with other students or clubs.

4.6 The windows are to be kept clear.

4.7 Students are responsible for any damage to the room or piano that occurs during their reservation.

4.8 Students are to vacate the room at the end of their reservation.

4.9 Students and faculty should not leave instruments and personal belongings unattended in practice rooms. New York University and the Kimmel Center are not responsible for any loss or theft from a practice room.

4.10 Any violation of these policies may result in loss of privileges of the use of the practice rooms.

Kimmel Operations reserves the right to refuse and/or cancel any reservation at any time for any reason.

 

4.12  Street shoes or tap shoes are not allowed in the dance studio.


  5.0 LOCKERS

5.1 Lockers are available for rental to students who do not have lockers in their school departments and who are eligible to reserve practice rooms in Shorin.

5.2 A $10/semester fee is charged and students must provide their own locks.

5.3  Lockers must be used for music, musical instrument, and dance equipment storage only. Food, drink and other items are not allowed.

5.4 Kimmel Operations and Department of Public Safety reserve the right to open and inspect lockers at any time and for any reason.

5.5 Lockers must be cleared by the end of each semester. Special arrangements must be made with Kimmel Operations for instruments stored over the break.

5.6  New York University and the Kimmel Center are not responsible for any loss or theft from a locker.
