Free Voice Mail Upon Request

NYU provides free voice mail upon request for each telephone number. Roommates share the voice mailbox associated with a shared telephone number. Calls are directed to voice mail after four rings.

To activate voice mail for your telephone number, please send email to student.voicemail@nyu.edu with the following information:

  • Your NetID
  • Email address
  • Name
  • Telephone number
  • Residence hall
  • Room number

Your voice mail activation and password notification will be emailed to you within two business days.

Voice Mailbox Storage Space

Your voice mailbox has 12 minutes of storage, including your greeting. Once you have reached the limit, your mailbox cannot receive any more messages. Delete messages after you have listened to them to provide space for new messages. The system permanently deletes new, old, and unopened messages after seven days.

Creating a Password and Logging In

Voice mail passwords must be 6-11 digits long. The password cannot be the same as the extension, consecutive digits, or a single digit repeated.

To log in to your voice mailbox:

  • Dial 34800 (1-212-443-4800 from off campus).
  • Enter your extension + # (your extension is the last 5 digits of your NYU telephone number).
  • Enter your password + #.

The first time you log in to your voice mailbox, your password is the last 4 digits of your NYU telephone number. The system will prompt you to change this password. If you cannot log in to your voice mailbox, please call ITS Client Services at 83333 (1-212-998-3333 from off campus) and select option 2, or send email to student.voicemail@nyu.edu.
