Network Connections (Data and Voice)

ITS provides wired network connections throughout NYU (in offices, labs, classrooms, and public spaces) for on-campus local area networks (LANs), campus-wide wide area networks (WAN), and access to the Internet (both general and high-speed research networks). Departments can place orders for installations, moves, and changes to these connections. ITS works with NYU’s Facilities and Construction Management unit in networking new or renovated space and is responsible for installation, activation, and maintenance of data jacks across the campus including NYU offices, facilities, and residence halls.

VPN (Virtual Private Network) is software that provides password-protected access to NYU’s network (NYU-NET) and Internet services from an off-campus location that is as secure as being connected directly to NYU-NET on campus. ITS video conferencing facilities at 726 Broadway are available for scheduling by faculty, staff, and administrators. ITS can set up and monitor the calls. The video conference types available are ISDN and IP, to accommodate multi-point conference calling through a video conference bridge.
