Active Directory is used to manage networked computers and a variety of resources across NYU by providing authentication to and authorization for those services. All NYU faculty, staff, and students are in Active Directory. Accounts are enabled as needed.

LDAP Authentication

LDAP Authentication is the method for signing in to a variety of NYU services (including NYUHome, Albert, NYU E-mail, NYU Google Apps for Education, and Blackboard) using your NetID and password. All applications that use Single Sign-On (SSO)—where you sign in once and have seamless access to other SSO-enabled application—leverage LDAP Authentication.
Some client departments use LDAP Authentication as the method for signing into their departmental applications.

NetID and Account Provisioning (NYU Start Page)

NetIDs and a variety of ITS and University-wide accounts are provided by ITS to the NYU community. The NYU Start Page is where new NYU NetIDs are activated and a password is set (and re-set as needed).

NYU Directory

The NYU Directory can be used to find faculty, staff, administrator, and some student (if they opt-in) addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers, websites, preferred name, and preferred office phone number. Available via the NYU website at www.nyu.edu/search.directory.html or via the NYU Directory channel in NYUHome, the NYU Directory draws information from authoritative University data sources such as student and human resources systems. Qualified community members can also update portions of their NYU Directory profiles via the NYU Start Page; see the website below for details.
