Policies (ITS)

Access to the Internet and other computing resources is made available to members of the NYU community as part of the educational computing and networking resources of the University. Such resources and use of NYU's network are privileges and must be exercised in conformity with all applicable NYU and ITS policies and procedures, available at www.nyu.edu/its/policies/, and all applicable federal and state laws. Failure to abide by these policies can result in suspension of network privileges and referral of the matter to the appropriate disciplinary process.

NYU student email policy
All official University communications sent by email are delivered to your NetID@nyu.edu address. If you wish to forward your NYU email to an address other than this or the personal email address you can set in NYUHome, you must set forwarding in your NYUHome Preferences. For instructions, go to www.nyu.edu/its/email/forward/.

P2P software and copyright restrictions
Sharing files via peer-to-peer (P2P) applications (e.g., KaZaA, Gnutella) can be a violation of federal copyright laws, and NYU is required to respond to complaints from copyright owners. Also, P2P can pose a security risk and, if overused, can adversely affect network performance. For more information about P2P applications and the rules governing their use at NYU, see www.nyu.edu/its/p2p/ or contact ITS Technology Security Services at security@nyu.edu.

Publications

ITS provides a variety of online and print publications for NYU students, including the ITS Guide to Telephone Services & ResNet, Connect magazine (www.nyu.edu/its/pubs/connect/), the NYU-NET CD, and brochures about ITS services and facilities, NYUHome, and computer and network security. ITS also publishes Connect-Direct, a monthly email newsletter offering timely bulletins and information of interest to people who use IT at NYU. For information about all ITS publications and to download copies, see www.nyu.edu/its/pubs/.

Students are encouraged to subscribe to the Libraries' forum, LibLink, for announcements of new library services, databases, etc. NYU's Division of Libraries publishes the newsletter, Progressions, in the fall and spring; it features news about the Libraries' latest acquisitions, services, and events. For information about subscribing to LibLink and to download copies of Progressions, see http://library.nyu.edu/about/news.html.
