Bibliography Style Guides and Software
Several abridged online writing guides and style manuals are
available on the Libraries' QuickRef page, http://library.nyu.edu/quickref/. Find a printer-friendly introduction to citation
styles at http://library.nyu.edu/research/rg57.html.
NYU Libraries supports the use of RefWorks, ProCite, and End-
Note. Use these citation management software programs to:
- Organize your research
- Import citations from electronic databases and catalogs
- Format your references in dozens of standard styles (MLA, APA, etc.)
- Insert footnotes, endnotes, and a bibliography directly into your paper
RefWorks is free for NYU students, and the library provides classes about its use. For more information, see http://library.nyu.edu/bib/.
Blackboard
NYU Blackboard is the University's course management
system. If your instructor elects to use NYU Blackboard for
your course, you will see a link with your course title in the
NYUHome Blackboard Classes channel.
To access an NYU Blackboard site for your course:
- Make sure you have activated both your NYU NetID and
NYUHome service (see NetID and NYUHome for
information on activating your service)
- Log into NYUHome (http://home.nyu.edu/) and click the
Academics tab.
- Under Blackboard Classes, click the link with your
course title.
Borrow Books
Your NYUCard is your library card and can be used in Bobst
Library for photocopying, printing, and microform printing.
Circulation (main floor of Bobst) is where library users check
out and return books. Students in degree programs can have
up to 200 items checked out at one time. Find complete borrowing
policies at http://library.nyu.edu/services/borrow_renew.html.
Book Loan Periods at Bobst Library
Undergraduates - 28 days
Masters students - 60 days
Doctoral students - 120 days
Renew Books
Books borrowed from Bobst, Courant, Cooper Union, New
York School of Interior Design, and the New School University
libraries can be renewed at the library or on the Web at
http://library.nyu.edu/services/borrow_renew.html.
Recall a Book
If you need a book that is currently checked out, being
processed, on order, at the bindery, or off-site, you can place
a Recall. When the book becomes available, the library will
notify you by email. Look for this button
in the BobCat record. For more information
about recalls, see http://library.nyu.edu/services/recall.html.
Can't find a book that's supposed to be on
the shelf? Try Quick Search.
If you can't find an item in the Bobst stacks even though the
status of the book is "Available," fill out a "Quick Search" card (available throughout the library) and turn it in at the
Circulation desk. A search will be conducted within 24 hours,
and you will be notified of the results via email or telephone.
