The ACF Innovation Center houses many specialized resources for faculty who wish to explore Internet tools or other instructional technologies for use in their teaching and research. It will be holding open house on Thursday, February 29, for faculty members who are interested in finding out about these technologies. The members of the center's staff -- Joseph Hargitai, Jeffrey Lane, Johannes Lang, and I -- try to stay current with the latest developments in Internet and multimedia applications, so that we can help you evaluate your options and plan your project.We also try to have the latest equipment. To our complement of Power Macintosh AV machines, we have just added a Gateway P5-120, a Pentium-based 120-Mhz multimedia machine running Windows 95. The Macintosh systems' peripherals include HP 1200-dpi color flatbed scanners, Nikon Coolscan 35mm film scanners, and a variety of storage devices, such as Syquest 270-megabyte drives and Iomega Zip drives.
A modest but growing collection of instructional CD titles is housed in the Innovation Center for evaluation by faculty. The staff keeps up to date on various freeware and shareware applications available on the Internet and makes them available to faculty as needed.
