Download and install the ITS Print Service Components client software, following the instructions provided here, if you wish to be able to tag & send documents using your own NYU-NET connected computer. In addition, we show you how to set up the software so that you can easily change your print options and use sensible printing strategies whenever appropriate.

Windows Instructions

A. Download & Install the Software

The ITS Print Service Components client software for Windows can be used on Windows 2000, XP SP2, Vista SP2, and 7 and is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

  1. Open your browser and connect to http://software.nyu.edu (your NetID and password may be required).
  2. In the ITS Print Service section of the page, double-click the Windows installer link.
  3. In the File Download box that opens, click Save:

    to download the installer file, ITS_Print_Service_for_LTE.exe, to your desktop.
  4. Close all applications running on your computer. Double-click the ITS_Print_Service_for_LTE.exe icon to initiate the automatic installation process.
  5. When the installation process is complete, you will see a list of the component files that have been installed. Click Finish to exit the installer program:

  6. Open the Start menu, (a) select Printers and Faxes, and (b) check the list of printers to confirm that the ITS_Print_Service printer has been added to the list:

B. Set It Up for Sensible Printing

The ITS Print Service client for Windows comes with double-sided printing as the default. Follow these instructions to make it easy for you to change this setting or to use other sensible printing strategies, as appropriate.

  1. From the Printers and Faxes menu, double-click the ITS_Print_Service printer icon to view and change print options.
  2. From the Printer drop-down menu, select Properties.
  3. From the General tab, click Printing Preferences.
  4. The ITS Print Service client software for Windows comes with double- or 2-sided printing as the default setting. Click another option within the 2-sided printing area (a) to change this setting, as needed. For multipage printing (b), select the appropriate number form the Pages per sheet menu.

Macintosh Instructions

A. Download & Install the Software

  1. Open your browser and connect to http://software.nyu.edu (your NetID and password may be required).
  2. In the ITS Print Service section of the page, double-click the Macintosh installer link to download the ITSPrintService.dmg (for disk image) file to your desktop.
  3. Double-click the ITSPrintService.dmg icon.
  4. Double-click the ITSPrintService drive (volume) icon that appears.
  5. Double-click the ITSPrintService.pkg icon to launch the ITS Print Service installer.
  6. Follow the Installerís instructions. Click Continue when prompted.

  7. Select the volume in which you wish to have the software installed (typically, Macintosh HD) and click Continue.
  8. Click Install.
  9. Enter your Administrative Password when prompted.
  10. Click Continue Installation after closing any open applications.
  11. Click Logout to complete the installation.

B. Set It Up for Sensible Printing

The ITS Print Service client for Macintosh comes with single-sided printing as the default. Follow these instructions to make it easy for you to switch to double-sided printing, and other sensible printing strategies whenever appropriate.

  1. Select Print from the File menu of any application. In the Print dialog box that opens, select ITS_Print_Service from the Printer pulldown menu. Click the down-arrow in the upper right corner to view an expanded set of printing options.
  2. To create a Preset for convenient double-sided printing:
    1. Open the print settings pulldown menu, and select Layout.
    2. Open the Two-Sided pulldown menu, and select Long-edge binding or Short-edge binding, as desired. (Long-edge binding is commonly used for portrait-mode pages; short-edge binding is more common with landscape-mode pages.)
    3. Open the Presets pulldown menu, and select Save As.
  3. Click OK.
