New version of Symantec Endpoint Protection now available
A new downloadable version of Symantec Endpoint Protection (12.1.4) anti-virus software is now available for students, faculty, and full-time NYU staff from the Ask ITS section of NYUHome (NetID and password required).
Symantec Endpoint Protection (12.1.4) will run on Mac Mavericks and Windows 8, as well as previous Mac and Windows operating systems.
To download the software:
- Navigate to the Software channel in the Ask ITS section of NYUHome.
- Click "Click here to download Symantec Endpoint Protection for Windows and Mac."
- Download the appropriate version of the software for your operating system.

Transition from Brio to UDW+ complete
On October 31, 2013, NYU's financial reporting transitioned from Brio to UDW+, providing more intuitive and flexible access to financial data, reporting, and analytics. For NYU community members who previously used Brio Financial Standard Reports or Brio Financial Ad Hoc Reports and have not already received training, be sure to visit the UDW+ Financial Reporting and Analytics Training section of the UDW+ website.
The Decision Support Group (DSG) is also available to answer your UDW+ questions, and provide reporting and analytical assistance. To submit a query or question to the DSG, please send email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 1-212-998-2900.
PREPARING FOR THE WINTER RECESS & JANUARY TERM
Turn off your computer and other devices while away
In preparation for the holidays, ITS would like to remind you to turn off your computer while you are away from the University. Turning off your computer is an important step for several reasons:
- If a new security patch comes out and you've forgotten to activate your automatic security updates features, your computer will not be compromised while you are away.
- If there is an existing security vulnerability that your computer is already susceptible to, it will not get infected or broken into over the break. Keep in mind, however, that it is important to update your computer's security features as soon as you return from the break.
- It will help save energy and help make you a good University citizen! For even greater power savings, turn off the monitor, printer, speakers, and other peripherals, and unplug the computer or turn off the power strip it is connected to.
If you need to leave your computer turned on to work remotely while the University is closed, you can take these steps to save energy:
- Turn off your monitor and printer and any peripherals (your computer's speakers, for example) that you will not be using.
- For additional computer energy savings recommendations, check the NYU Facilities & Construction Management website at www.nyu.edu/fcm/cesfaq.htm.
And remember that the Policy on Responsible Use of NYU Computers and Data applies whether you're working in your office or working from home; please take a few minutes to reacquaint yourself with it.
Set your voice mail and email vacation messages
ITS recommends that individuals and departments update their voice mail greetings to reflect their status during the Winter Recess. You may wish to explain that the University is closed, including the dates, and whether or not you will call in to retrieve messages during the holiday.
You can also set up an email "vacation responder" via the Settings menu at the top-right of the NYU Email screen to alert those who contact you during the holiday period. Ensure receipt of your 2013 Form W-2
If you are an NYU faculty, staff member, or student employee, you now have the option to securely access your Form W-2 online. The deadline to provide consent to receive your 2013 Form W-2 online is January 15, 2014 at 11:59pm ET.
To consent, see ePrintview QuickSteps for instructions on receiving your Form W-2 electronically. If you have previously consented and remained an active employee with NYU, you do not need to consent again. Employees who do not opt-in to ePRINTVIEW service by the consent deadline will receive mailed paper copies of the 2013 Form W-2 to their address on file.
If you wish to receive your 2013 Form W-2 by physical mail, check the address on your paycheck or Payment Image (available via the Payment Image Viewing channel in the NYUHome Work tab) and, if necessary update your address as soon as possible to ensure timely receipt of your W-2. To do so, log into ePASS: Employee Self Service via the NYUHome Work tab and update the Home Information section (see the NYU Payroll Department's website for full instructions).
ITS' Winter Recess & January Term hours of operation
The IT Service Desk will remain available to answer calls to 1-212-998-3333 and email to AskITS@nyu.edu 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the Winter Recess and January Term. However, the NYU-NY walk-in location at 10 Astor Place will be closed for the Winter Recess from 6:00pm on Friday, December 20 until 9:00am on Thursday, January 2.
ITS' Academic Technology Centers, CoLabs, Digital Studio, Data Services, Advanced Media Studio, and most ITS offices in New York will follow modified schedules of coverage during NYU's Winter Recess and January Term, and will be closed on Monday, January 20 for Martin Luther King, Jr., Day.
