NEWS & REMINDERS
New IT Service Catalog Available
ITS has launched a new IT Service Catalog to help raise awareness of and facilitate access to the wide range of services we support. Visit www.nyu.edu/its/servicecatalog to browse services by location, role, category or keyword, and to learn more about each service and how to access it. We welcome your questions about and suggested improvements to this new version of the IT Service Catalog; please submit your feedback to the IT Service Desk at AskITS@nyu.edu or 212-998-3333.
Software Anywhere: The New Virtual Computer Lab
Students can now access a variety of NYU-licensed software—including SPSS, Photoshop, Illustrator, MatLab and more—from their own computers using the new Virtual Computer Lab (VCL). Sign in to the VCL using your NetID and password via the NYUHome Academics tab, or directly at vcl.nyu.edu. For more information, visit www.nyu.edu/its/vcl.
Copyright Infringement & the Risks of Illegal File Sharing
NYU is committed to a strong position against illegal downloading and sharing of copyrighted materials. It is important to be aware of the University's stance concerning this issue, your responsibilities, and possible penalties and repercussions. For more information, see "A Note on Illegal Downloading" at www.nyu.edu/its/illegal.
NYU Google Apps for Education
In early 2011, NYU embarked on a project to migrate over 140,000 email accounts (totaling 14 terabytes of messages) and hundreds of calendars from University servers to Google Apps for Education. By the end of May 2011, all NYU community members were successfully transitioned to one of the largest Google Apps for Education implementations to date.
Since the migration, old systems have been archived and a dedicated Google Apps Service Team has developed a variety of training and support options for NYU E-mail, Docs, Calendar, Sites, Talk, and Groups. For tips on making the most of NYU Google Apps, including tutorials and step-by-step instructions (such as how to configure your mobile device), visit the NYU Google Apps website (www.nyu.edu/google). Faculty and staff are also encouraged to register for online training sessions via NYUiLearn; for details, see the Training and Support page.
DID YOU KNOW?
Download Antivirus & Anti-Spyware Software
Symantec Endpoint Protection, which provides both antivirus and anti-spyware protection, is available for download via the Ask ITS area of NYUHome. After logging in, find the ITS Software channel (at the upper left), and click "Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware Software." If you need further information or assistance, please contact the IT Service Desk at 212-998-3333 or AskITS@nyu.edu (for global support desk information, see www.nyu.edu/its/askits/helpdesk).
ITS Print Service
The convenient ITS Print Service enables NYU community members to send documents from any computer connected to the NYU network to their personal ITS Print Service queues, and then print them at ITS Print Stations in the ITS Academic Technology Centers and CoLabs, or at other locations around campus. To use the service from your own computer, download and install (or update) the Print Service software available at www.nyu.edu/its/software/#print. See www.nyu.edu/its/print for more information.
