ITS Print Service: Updated Software Available

ITS Print Service enables NYU community members to send documents from any NYU-NET-connected computer to their personal ITS Print Service queues, and then print their documents at any ITS Print Station, located at the ITS Academic Technology Centers and CoLabs. To use the service from your own computer, download and install the Print Service software available at www.nyu.edu/its/software/#print. If you have previously installed the software, ITS recommends that you download and install this updated version.

Virtual Computer Lab Pilot

Interested in accessing software applications from your own computer that you would ordinarily access in a computer lab? If so, you may be interested in participating in the NYU Virtual Computer Lab (VCL) Pilot. This pilot is limited to NYU Washington Square students, and designed to provide access to a limited number of applications via an Internet browser. For additional information, visit the VCL Pilot FAQ page (www.nyu.edu/its/vcl/faq). Registration via NYUHome began Monday, September 13th.

SAS, SPSS, & AMOS Available Through NYU Computer Store

SAS, SPSS, and AMOS, three statistical software packages previously available through ITS, are now sold through the NYU Computer Store. See www.bookstores.nyu.edu/computer.store for more information.


REMINDERS & ALERTS

Your NYU NetID & Password

All NYU faculty and staff members, as well as students enrolled in degree or diploma programs, are provided with an NYU NetID. Your NetID, a combination of your initials and a few random numbers, e.g., aqe123, is printed on the back of your NYUCard next to your University ID, a longer string of numbers starting with an "N." Once activated, your NetID is your key to many NYU online resources including, for eligible community members, NYUHome. Your NetID is also used to create your default NYU email address. You can activate your NetID at any time from any Internet-connected computer using the ITS Start page (start.nyu.edu).

For security reasons, NYU requires that you change your NetID password at least once each year. You will receive notifications from ITS when your password is about to expire. If your password expires, you will not be able to access NetID and password-protected sites until you go to start.nyu.edu and follow the instructions for setting a new password.

Unauthorized Use of Passwords & NetIDs

Be careful not to inadvertently provide access to your NYU account! Your NetID and password are intended only for your use. By providing your username and password for your online NYU account to someone else, you essentially authorize that person or company to access your account and to view and record any information in your account. This information can include, but is not limited to, grades, address and financial data, restricted University information, licensed software downloads, and personal information. As a user of NYU's computer and data resources, you are obligated to use these resources responsibly as stated in various University policies, particularly the Policy on Responsible Use of NYU Computers and Data and the Responsibilities of All NYU Computer, Data, and Network Users (www.nyu.edu/its/policies). Copyright Infringement & the Risks of Illegal File Sharing

NYU is committed to a strong position against illegal downloading of copyrighted materials. You need to be aware of the University's stance concerning this issue, your obligations, and possible penalties and repercussions. Resources for Use of Copyrighted Materials

A handbook for the use of copyrighted materials is maintained by the NYU Libraries, ITS, and the Office of the Provost, together with the NYU Office of General Counsel. It is intended to provide helpful information to members of the NYU community who use copyrighted materials in educational and research activities. The handbook, along with related information and FAQs, can be found at library.nyu.edu/copyright. If you have questions regarding "fair use" of copyrighted materials, please send email to fairuse@nyu.edu.

ITS Scheduled Maintenance Periods

To provide the best possible service while minimizing inconvenience, ITS performs upgrades and other required system work during regularly scheduled maintenance periods. Please note that these maintenance periods may involve an interruption of some services. Have A Question? Ask ITS

The Ask ITS area within NYUHome is a central resource for technical support and training, as well as software downloads and important news alerts. Keep an eye on this area for new resources added throughout the year. Answers to frequently asked questions about ITS services and facilities, including NYUHome, are available at AskITS.nyu.edu, along with information on how to contact ITS for individual assistance.

ITS classes (www.nyu.edu/its/classes) include NYU Blackboard training, as well as workshops in the use of the NYURoam wireless network and (in collaboration with the Libraries) statistics and mapping software.

NYURoam Wireless Workshops are held throughout the semester every Wednesday from 4-6pm in the Kimmel Center Second Floor Commuter Lounge. Please see www.nyu.edu/its/forms/wireless for the full schedule and to register for a workshop session.

The Libraries also offer an extensive set of workshops, classes, and tours on the topic of Library resources and tools. Visit http://webapps.library.nyu.edu/classes for details and to register.
