Luna Insight

Overview

Insight® is software for digital collections currently in use by the Institute of Fine Arts, the CAS Department of Art History, and the Tisch Department of Photography and Imaging. Images and data for each collection are maintained by the department that owns the collection. Accounts are limited to faculty of these departments, IFA graduate students, and CAS Department of Art History courses.

Access Luna Online

Click here to access Luna. Be sure to disable any pop-up blockers in your web browser.

At the prompt, enter:

  • Username: Your Insight Username
  • Password: Your Insight Password

You can then proceed to use Luna. Please note that your Luna Password is the one you requested, and may or may not be the same as the password associated with your Net ID. If you need assistance, see the support links below.

Request an Account

Click here to request a Luna account. Luna accounts are available for faculty at the Institute of Fine Arts, CAS Department of Art History, and Tisch Department of Photography and Imaging; for graduate students at the Institute of Fine Arts; and (at the request of the department) for senior seminar students in CAS Department of Art History. A Luna account will allow you to browse these departments' image collections.

Install Luna's Insight Java Application

If you prefer to access Luna from your desktop rather than online, you can download Luna's Insight 6 Java application software directly from the manufacturer's website at www.lunaimaging.com/downloads. Scroll down to the Insight Java Client download, and choose the version of the application that matches your computer. Make sure that the download corresponds both to your platform (PC or Mac) and to your current operating system (e.g., XP or OS X). Note that the file is rather large and may take several minutes to download, depending on the speed of your network connection.

Once the file has been downloaded, install it using the advanced setting and follow the directions in the various dialogue boxes as they appear on your screen.

Make sure you scroll down until you see the Insight 6 section. No password is required to download Insight.

When asked for the User Manager Address, type insight.nyu.edu. The application is now ready for use.
