Transportation

Subways

NYU is located in the downtown section of Manhattan. The nearest subway stations are:

  • 8th Street (at Broadway and 8th Street), for the N or the R local service.
  • Astor Place (at Astor Place/3rd Avenue and 8th street) for the 6 local service.
  • West 4th St. (at West 4th Street and 6th Avenue) for the A, C, E, B, D, Q, F service.
  • Christopher Street/Sheridan Square (at 7th Avenue and West 4th Street), for the 1 and 9 local service.

A single ride token is $1.50, a 7-day MetroCard with unlimited rides on subways and buses costs $17.- You can buy it in every subway station. A subway map will be included in your conference pack, detailed transport information can be found at the MTA website: http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/

Taxis

Taxis are a good way to get about - they are plentiful and fairly reliable. You can just hail a taxi in the street - the illuminated "for hire" light on the top will tell you if they are for hire. The base fare is $2.50, and the fare creeps up based on the distance you travel and the length of time you are in the cab (so the fare will be higher if you are stuck in traffic). You should tip at least 10%.

Buses

busmap There are several buses with services to Greenwich Village and NYU. You can find a detailed Manhattan Bus map on the web or in most subway stations.
