NYU in Ghana

New York University is proud to announce the opening of a new study abroad site in Accra, Ghana. Beginning in Fall 2004, NYU is partnering with Ashesi University and the University of Ghana (Legon) to provide our students with access to the major cultural and educational institutions of this developing nation and world capital.

Students will have the opportunity to take courses in business, economics, film, and journalism, among others, and to study topics covering the Ghanaian region as a whole, including issues of economic and political integration. They will also be able to pursue in-depth studies of significant African topics and cultural influences.

Students will be introduced to the major libraries of Accra, such as the Balme Library, one of the leading libraries in the region that is particularly known for its Africana Rare Books Room, which holds materials dating as far back as the 17th century. Students will also have access to the other facilities of the Ashesi University and to those at the University of Ghana (Legon) as well, including computer labs and other academic resources.

NYU in Ghana offers computing resources to students in several ways:

  1. Students are invited to use their own laptops for use at the NYU in Ghana Academic Center. Internet access and printing are available via wireless (if you have your own wireless card or Airport) or wired data jacks (by plugging in with an Ethernet cable).

NOTE: Due to space restrictions, students may not bring larger "desktop" computers (with separate monitor and CPU), even if they are equipped for wireless access.

  2. Students can use one of several computers in the computer lab at the Academic Center. These computers are equipped with access to the Internet, printers, and the Microsoft Office suite of programs (Word, Office, Excel, and Access).
  3. Students also have access to the computer lab at Ashesi University, which also has Office suite products, printers and Internet access. Internet access and computing resources are not currently provided at the NYU in Ghana residential center.
