The ITS Instructional Technology Fellowship is an chance for faculty to work one-on-one with a team of technology experts to integrate web-based technologies into a course. Faculty will also be able to improve overall technology skills and awareness through the fellowship process. No prior technological skills are required, only an interest and willingness to learn and apply new technologies and practices in a real instructional situation.
Technologies which may be investigated as part of the fellowship include:
- Enhanced Blackboard course sites
- Real-time collaboration
- Online student run projects
- Utilizing RSS (Real Simple Syndication) and other syndication feeds
- Incorporating online sources of discipline-specific content
- Producing "podcasts" and other enhanced presentations
- Advanced use of the Office suite and other desktop applications
Goals
- The goal of the fellowship is for NYU faculty members to work one-on-one with the instructional technology staff of ITS to enhance teaching and learning through the use of technology in one course.
- The outcome of the fellowship will be a functioning, technology-enhanced course that can be used in multiple semesters, as well as greater overall knowledge and technology skills that the selected faculty member can apply to all subsequent courses.
Structure
The fellowship will be for two semesters structured as follows:
Semester One
The ITS team will work with the faculty fellow to understand course objectives, select appropriate technologies, and provide all necessary training.
Semester Two
The ITS team will assist in supporting and maintaining the enhancements implemented in the course and coordinate an end-of-semester comparative evaluation.
Requirements
- The faculty member must have taught the course in at least one prior semester.
- Faculty must demonstrate willingness to rethink course pedagogy and to learn and apply to technologies.
- Faculty time commitments will be kept to a minimum, most likely to include three, focused workshop sessions during the semester one and informal follow-ups and meetings by email and phone during the semester two.
- Technology changes will be implemented only after consultation with and consent of the faculty fellow and after adequate proficiency training to assure that he or she is comfortable using the selected technology.
