NYUHome has a web-based mail client built into it. However, if you prefer, you can use the Outlook 2007 email client to access your NYU email. To do so, follow the instructions below.
Please note that ITS strongly recommends the use of the IMAP mail protocol. With IMAP, you can keep all of your mail on the server, in folders. That way, even if you use Outlook at home, a different email program at the office, and the NYUHome web client while on the road, you will always have all of your mail folders available to you!
Configure Outlook 2007 for Windows
- Open Outlook 2007, click on the Tools menu and choose Account settings

- Under the Email tab, click New.

- Check the box labeled Manually configure server settings or additional service types. Leave all other fields blank and click Next.

- Choose Internet E-Mail and click Next.

- In the window that opens, do the following (see figure below):
- Type your full name in the Your Name field.
- Type your NYUHome email address (YourNetID@nyu.edu; e.g., aqe123@nyu.edu) in the E-mail Address field.
- Select IMAP in the Account Type drop-down box.
- Type mail.nyu.edu in the Incoming mail server (IMAP) field.
- Type smtp.nyu.edu in the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) field.
- Type your NYU NetID (in lowercase) in the User Name field. Leave the password field blank for now.
- Click the More Settings button.

-
Click the Outgoing Server tab, then check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.

Click the Advanced tab. Next to Incoming server (IMAP) and Outgoing server (SMTP), make sure that SSL is selected in each drop-down box next to Use the following type of encrypted connection. Enter 993 in the box next to Incoming server (IMAP), and 465 in the box next to Outgoing Server (SMTP).
- In the E-mail Accounts window that is still open, click Next, then click Finish on the next screen.

Congratulations! Outlook 2007 is now configured to check your NYUHome email using IMAP.
