About NYU Blackboard

The NYU Blackboard online learning management system (LMS) enables NYU faculty to utilize the Web to enhance classroom instruction without having to learn HTML. Instructors can use NYU Blackboard to create full-featured, online course environments for the members of their class providing:

  • Easy access to content, including articles, images, and multimedia
  • Enhanced communication, including class email lists, discussion boards, and real-time chat
  • Streamlined assessment, including tests, surveys, and grading, as well as many other features

About the NYU Blackboard Upgrade

NYU first introduced Blackboard in the fall of 2002. Today more than 45,000 faculty and students use Blackboard in their classes each semester. The company recently announced that the version currently used at NYU will no longer be supported in the near future, so NYU (along with a number of other universities) must upgrade to a newer version. This past summer, ITS began implementing the upgrade, and pending successful performance testing, Blackboard 8.0 will be available for the start of the Spring '09 semester. The new version will provide greater functionality and improved performance.
