ITS offers student employees competitive compensation, a flexible schedule, and an environment in which they can enhance their computer skills.

Client Services Center Technical Assistant

Participate in the Client Services Center's mission to help NYU students, faculty and staff with a variety of email, network connectivity, and computer configuration issues. Greet visitors, answer questions, and distribute ITS information and software to the NYU community. Student Tech Assistants gain experience in: analyzing hardware and software configurations for TCP/IP networking and PPP dial-in as well as office, ResNet and wireless connections; software support for email clients using IMAP and POP protocols; and more. There are also opportunities to assist in special projects, such as HTML documentation for the NYU-NET CD and the teaching of classes on subjects related to the Internet and email. Regular office hours are Monday - Friday, 8am - midnight, Saturday - Sunday, noon - midnight.

Lab Assistant

If you enjoy helping your fellow students master the use of computer applications—not just to complete but also to enhance their coursework—and thrive in a fast-paced, technology-centered learning environment, this is the on-campus place to work. Working in one of the four ITS student computer labs, your technical and communication skills will be honed by assisting staff in the maintenance of the software and hardware infrastructure, providing technical guidance on course-related projects, and disseminating up-to-date information about ITS resources, rules and practices that govern responsible use of technology at NYU. Your organizational and communication skills will help you perform necessary administrative tasks that include answering the phone, monitoring access to the facility, and collecting and updating lab data and documentation. You may choose to work weekdays or weekends, morning or evening hours. A robust knowledge of technology, excellent communication skills, and reliability are required.

Technology Assistant Positions

Student Technology Assistant positions require in-depth knowledge of specialized technologies.

Instructional Technology

You will be assisting ITS instructional and discipline-focused technology specialists working closely with faculty who wish to use computers and Internet resources in their classes. You will be helping faculty in all disciplines to explore and use multimedia technologies in instruction, research, and the production of scholarly materials. Experience producing audio, video, and printed content for digital learning environments is required, along with excellent communication skills.

Arts Technology

Working in the Multimedia Center at 35 W. 4th St., you will help staff maintain the software and hardware infrastructure, and provide technical guidance to lab users working on course related projects. Experience with one of the following areas, along with excellent communication skills, is required:

  • Audio production applications such as Logic, Protocols, or Max/MSP
  • Experience with animation tools such as Maya
  • Experience with video production tools such as Final Cut Pro

Advanced Imaging

Working in the Multimedia Center at 35 W. 4th St., you will help staff provide advanced imaging services, including the production of large scale museum-quality digital prints and the maintenance of smaller printers, a film recorder, and a high resolution film scanner. Experience with photography and computer applications such as Photoshop is required, along with excellent communication skills. Daytime and evening hours are available.

Laser Cutting

Working in the Multimedia Center at 35 W. 4th St., you will help staff provide services for those working with flat materials using a computer-driven laser cutting and etching device. Experience with construction using flat materials and computer applications such as Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, or AutoCad is required, along with excellent communication skills. Daytime and evening hours are available.

Humanities Computing

Working with ITS staff at 251 Mercer Street, you will assist us in the development of networked applications for the Humanities, management of the Language Computer Classroom, and management of the HCG's Web servers. Experience with HTML and scripting languages (JavaScript, PHP, etc) required, as well as a willingness to learn. We work in a multi-platform environment requiring knowledge of multiple operating systems. Experience with XML, SQL, Unix and/or advanced programming languages (Java, C++) is desirable.

Statistics & Mapping

Working with ITS Social Science, Statistics & Mapping specialists, you will assist staff in a series of hands-on workshops and provide consultation in research methods, GIS, and statistical analysis including the acquisition and creation of datasets, and the maintenance of high-end computational computers. Experience with STATA, SPSS, SAS, ArcGIS, and MapInfo is desirable. Knowledge of Windows, Linux, and Macintosh operating systems is helpful.
