ITS eServices, a division of ITS' .edu Services, provides the following services to the NYU community:

NYUHome

NYUHome is the service that puts at each student's and faculty and staff member's fingertips personal web agents that search, organize, retrieve, and send information custom-designed for each individual. Distribution of NYUHome accounts began in June 2000 and was completed in February 2001.

Information about activating and using your NYUHome service may be found on the NYUHome pages of this site.

Email

eServices manages the central email system for NYU, providing email services to over 60,000 members of the NYU community. We deliver over 500,000 messages per business day. Email may be accessed through the NYUHome web interface or by using POP or IMAP protocols. Incoming and outgoing mail is automatically scanned for viruses before delivery, and a customizable spam filtering tool is also available. Additional information about email at NYU is available at www.nyu.edu/its/email/.

NYU Web

NYU Web is the combination of nearly 100,000 web pages created by over 700 individual NYU webmasters, and is visited by millions of people each year. In fact, the number of hits to NYU Web doubles every six months.

The NYU Webguide has most of the information prospective and current NYU Web contributors will need. For detailed information on how to get started with pages on NYU Web, please check out the Getting Started section. To read Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) regarding NYU Web, go to the FAQs. Tutorials are also available in the Webguide. For guidelines, the official color palette and typography, and NYU logo, visit the Web Identity Standards page. NYU Web Policies are also available in the NYU Webguide.

NYU Search Engine

The NYU Search Engine utilizes proprietary technology developed by Google. It can crawl documents in 27 different languages and supports more than 200 file types, including PDFs and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). See NYU Search Tips for more information.

NYU webmasters can take advantage of the software's branding features to create a custom search and results page that fits in with his or her overall graphic design motif. Write to webteam@nyu.edu for more information.

NYU Forums

eServices manages the NYU Forums service for Internet-based discussions. We use Lyris software. There are currently over 1,000 active forums. Members of the NYU community can request new mailing lists here.

Systems Administration

eServices manages UNIX and NT systems that support central University Internet and academic services. These include NYU email, NYU Web, NYUHome, NYU Forums, Blackboard, iAuthor, NYU Digital Library, NYU Calendar, LDAP, NYU Email Direct, webcasting, and the NYU Registry Database.

Instructional Systems (Blackboard)

We are currently running Blackboard's e-Learning product, which enables instructors to create a course environment on the Web. There are now more than 4,000 sections taught in over 3,000 online course sites.

Digital Library

In partnership with Sun Microsystems, ITS and NYU Libraries launched the NYU Digital Library Center of Excellence in April 2003. eServices assisted in the development of systems for supporting metadata management, searching support, the user interface, and repository services for library digital resources.

Registry Database

The Registry Database is a central database maintained by ITS eServices. It holds basic information about people at the University and keeps records relating to ITS services such as NetID assignment, computer accounts, and email addresses. Integration with a variety of services such as central authentication, ResNet registration, electronic mail routing, and the public online directory makes it possible for these services to be based on reliable information about members of the community and their roles at NYU.

Directory Services

NYU's ITS Start Page allows new students, faculty and staff to apply for their NYUHome accounts online. It is also possible for people to change their NYU NetID passwords using this service. In addition, we offer students the option to have themselves listed in an online Student Directory.

Email Direct

Email Direct is an ITS service for NYU faculty and administrators. It allows authorized persons to send bulk email to specific groups of students, faculty, and/or staff. It requires advance authorization, which can be obtained by sending an email to email.direct@nyu.edu. Email Direct allows for more flexible recipient list construction, including the ability to construct distribution lists based on school, date of graduation or other criteria, all via the Web. Please read the Policies and Guidelines for Sending Bulk Email at NYU for more information about Email Direct.

Events Calendar

The NYU Events Calendar presents a uniform, user-friendly, web-based showcase for NYU's many events. Departments may apply for their own calendar to enhance their websites, or simply post events to the main calendar. The events on the main NYU calendar also appear in the Events Channel on an individual's NYUHome screen, providing another way to communicate the numerous activities at NYU. If you're an NYU webmaster and would like to inquire about creating your own custom Calendar, write to events@nyu.edu.

Fee For Service

eServices manages UNIX and Windows services for NYU schools and departments. If you have a UNIX or Windows system requiring system administration on a fee-for-service basis, contact eservices@nyu.edu.
