Siovahn A. Walker, Ph.D., is Program Officer for the President's Office as well as Special Assistant to the President at the Social Science Research Council. A professional poet and academic, she holds a B.A. in Medieval and Modern European History from Brown University, an M.A. in Medieval European History from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in Medieval European History, also from Stanford University. Her professional area of expertise is the pre-modern history of moral philosophy and psychology, as well as the development and organization of medieval educational and religious institutions. Prior to coming to work for the SSRC in the fall of 2008, Dr. Walker worked at Weill Cornell Medical College's Institute for the History of Psychiatry, was employed as a tour guide and public historian by Big Onion Walking Tours, taught English Composition at Fordham University, and spent a number of years in commercial marketing and publishing. She continues to pursue her research interests as a visiting scholar with the Institute for Public Knowledge at New York University and is currently working on a number of academic projects, most notably a history of de anima treatises. Dr. Walker has many hobbies and amateur interests, including music composition, drawing, painting, hiking, and bookbinding.
