Hannah Jones is a doctoral student in Sociology at Goldsmiths, University of London and a Visiting Scholar at IPK. Her thesis focuses on the development of community cohesion policy in the UK. The research involves work in four local authorities and interviews with UK national policy makers in government departments, think tanks and other influential bodies. The project examines how the particular formation of 'community cohesion' has developed meanings and how these meanings have changed over time and across areas of policy linked to urban studies, social justice, race relations and equality and diversity debates. It also explores the work of policy makers more generally to consider the ways they negotiate personal and professional identities and the implications of attempting to deal with issues of identity, emotion and the self within policy frameworks that are bound to ideals of measurement, efficiency and accountability.
Prior to her doctoral research, Hannah worked for five years in research and policy in London local government. She has a degree in Human Sciences from the University of Oxford and a Masters in Policy Studies from the University of Edinburgh.
