InterCEP Associate Director Presents Academic Research

Dr. Matt Statler presented papers at three different academic conferences in recent months. At the Academy of Management 2008 Annual Meeting, Dr. Statler made three paper presentations: "Narrating Strategy: A Phenomenological Inquiry into Storytelling Practices" with Saku Mantere of Hanken Business School in Helsinki and Wendelin Kuepers of Massey University in New Zealand; "A Meta-Ethical Perspective on Organizational Identity" with David Oliver of HEC Montreal and Johan Roos of Stockholm School of Economics; and "Toward a Practice Theory of Serious Play" with Claus Jacobs of the University of Saint- Gallen in Switzerland and Loizos Heracleous of Warwick University in the UK.

At the Control In Organizations: New Directions In Theory and Research conference in Laguna Beach, Dr. Statler presented "A Genealogy of Organizational Control" with Roger Dunbar of NYU's Stern Business School.

Finally, at The 4th Art of Management and Organization Conference, in Banff, Canada, Dr. Statler presented "Material Matters: Towards a Theory of Media in Arts-Based Learning" with Steve Taylor of Worchester Polytechnic Institute. Each of these papers represents one facet of Dr. Statler's research agenda focused on how organizations can become more strategically prepared to deal with unexpected events.
