July 2007 - Dr. Matt Statler's new book, Everyday Strategic Preparedness - The Role of Practical Wisdom in Organizations (Palgrave Macmillan UK), shows how current developments within the fields of crisis management, security and business continuity planning will shape how corporate strategy is created and implemented in the years to come.

Dr. Statler co-authored the book with Dr. Johan Roos, Bo Rydin and SCA Professor of Strategy at the Stockholm School of Economics. It was based on research conducted while both authors were at the Imagination Lab Foundation, a strategy think tank in Lausanne, Switzerland. The book presents the ancient concept of practical wisdom as a framework that can guide managers as they deal with unexpected events on a daily basis.

The authors build on recent academic research in strategic management and organization studies, and they interpret empirical data drawn from the post-9/11 field of crisis and emergency management, including a case study of NYU's Center for Catastrophe Preparedness and Response (CCPR) during the early phases of its existence.

Designed for academics as well as reflective practitioners, the book closes with a series of practical implications for how organizations can educate managers to deal effectively and ethically with crises of all kinds.
