Continuing InterCEP's efforts to enable more effective use of business resources in emergency management InterCEP is participating in the Resource Management Standard Development Task Group. This Task Group under a new FEMA initiative is tasked with providing greater guidance for effective resource management under the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
A standard developed by InterCEP with the input of dozens of national and international organizations is serving as the primary input for how business resources should be incorporated in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery efforts. The "Recommended Practice for Mobilizing Corporate Resources to Disaster" incorporated lessons learned from the organizations responding to the recent tsunami in Southeast Asia, Hurricane Katrina and other events. InterCEP Director Bill Raisch is participating on the national taskforce.
InterCEP released a white paper on this topic in January 2007, entitled "Mobilizing Corporate Resources to Disasters." This paper evaluated the current and potential role of businesses in providing key resources to governments and NGO's for emergency management activities. The research effort was supported by a grant from the communications company, Avaya, Inc. The research was based in large part on the contributions from dozens of executives and leaders from the private and public sectors, many of whom participated in two Executive Forums in New York City co-hosted by Avaya.
