Bringing Business Resources to Disaster: New Standard Informs NIMS & FEMA Efforts
June 1, 2007 2:14 PM
Businesses can provide significant resource support
to disaster operations. FEMA is initializing a new effort
to provide greater guidance for effective
resource management under the National Incident
Management System (NIMS). A standard
developed by InterCEP with the input of dozens of
national and international organizations is serving as
the primary input for how business resources should
be incorporated in emergency preparedness,
response, and recovery efforts. The recommended
product "Mobilizing Corporate Resources to Disaster"
incorporated
lessons learned from the organizations responding to
the recent Tsunami in Southeast Asia, Hurricane
Katrina and other events. InterCEP Director Bill
Raisch is participating on the national taskforce
headed by FEMA.
