More than seventy emergency management and business continuity professionals from sixteen countries around the world gathered for the International Workshop Agreement (IWA) Forum on Emergency Preparedness (April 24-26) which was hosted by InterCEP at NYU’s campus in Florence, Italy. The product of this international forum, International Workshop Agreement (IWA) 5 has been released and reported to the International Organization on Standards (ISO) Technical Committee 223 (TC233) to provide recommendations and guidance in developing an international standard on emergency preparedness.

The forum was held at the request of ISO and the American National Standards Institute(ANSI) which served as secretariat for the forum. InterCEP cooperated with ISO and ANSI in bringing together public and private sector officials to advance international cooperation in emergency preparedness and to respond to the standards community's call for an international deliverable in the area of emergency preparedness.

InterCEP and ANSI continue to partner in advancing preparedness standards. The Center is committed to advancing private sector readiness through integration of its efforts with corporate, governmental and other organizational stakeholders including the standards community. Bill Raisch, Director of InterCEP, serves on the Steering Committee of ANSI's Homeland Security Standards Panel.

InterCEP also hosted the International Public-Private Preparedness Summit (April 27-28) to discuss ways in which public and private sectors can share lessons learned, preparations for pandemics and catastrophes, and ways in which this vital field can move forward in saving lives and enterprise continuity in the wake of an emergency event.
