Announcement of Potential Designation of ANAB as Accreditation Body

April 2, 2008 5:21 PM

This announcement indicates the intent of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to designate ANAB as the accrediting body for the new voluntary business certification program. This body will set the basic operational framework for the certification program including the requisite criteria for the certification organizations that will ultimately audit and certify businesses as conforming with one or more business preparedness standards.

ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB) is a joint venture between the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the American Society for Quality (ASQ). ANAB is the organization in the United States that for many years has managed the voluntary certification programs for both quality management (ISO 9000) and environmental management (ISO 14000) as well as other voluntary certification programs. ANAB could potentially build upon the established auditing process and structures that have been applied in the voluntary certification of quality management and environmental management programs in business. These processes reflect significant business input and a history of long term application in the business environment.
