Welcoming and Orienting A New EmployeeGetting a new employee off to a good start can make a big difference in their feeling welcomed and in their effectiveness on the job. Do all you can to make the "onboarding" process as smooth as possible for them. Your new hire should have attended the University New Hire Orientation Program, conducted by the Talent Management Office, on his/her first day of work. This program also includes a Benefits Information Session, where your new employee will have the opportunity to enroll in his/her benefits. However, it is critical to officially welcome and orient your new employee to your part of the organization. Click here for Guidelines For Conducting an Orientation Program Within Your School or Division. For additional tips and suggestions, utilize the Pre-Arrival, First Day/First Week, First Month and Three/Six Month Checklists to assist you in welcoming and orienting a new employee. While intended for new administrators and staff employees, these checklists may be helpful for new faculty members, as well. |
