Easier Employment Verification: The Work NumberŪ

How is the Salary Key (authorization code) obtained?

The Salary Key is an authorization code provided by The Work NumberŪ. This authorization code process is designed to protect your privacy. It ensures that only you may authorize the release of your salary information to the verifier.

To obtain the code, you will need to contact the Work NumberŪ, either by phone at 1-800-EMP-AUTH or by visiting their web site at www.theworknumber.com.

Enter the following information when prompted:

  • NYU's company code, 10617
  • Your employee identification number
  • Your PIN

The Work NumberŪ will generate a unique Salary Key that you may give to the verifier. You should keep a record of the Salary Key (authorization code) for future reference. You will need to provide this code to the lender/verifier in order for them to access your Income Verification information.

What is My PIN?

You need a PIN which is an eight-digit code to request a Salary Key. If you are a first time user, or if you misplace or forgot your PIN, contact the Client Service Center at 1-800-996-7566 to request your default PIN. You will be asked to change this default PIN when you first access the system.

Note: Do not give your PIN to a lender, verifier or agency.

Important Note

You can have a maximum of three Salary Keys (authorization codes) active at one time. Each code can be used only once and by only one verifier. The codes remain active for six months. After six months the codes are deleted from the system.

If you obtain a Salary Key online (www.theworknumber.com) you have the option to receive an e-mail notification each time your Salary Key is used.
