Application Instructions

Please note that New York University defines an Applicant as someone who applies for a particular job.

If you are an External Applicant Interested in Working at NYU:

  • With New York University's automated application system, MATCH (Managing Applications Through Computerized Help), the process for applying for jobs is fast and efficient. All you need is access to the Internet. Click on the "External Applicants" section of our website at www.nyu.edu/hr/employment/apply.html, or click here to scroll through all current job opportunities. From there, you can select which job(s) you are interested in applying for.
  • We do not accept faxed or e-mailed resumes.
  • If you know someone who does not have access to the internet, please let them know they can stop by NYU's Employment Office, located at 7 East 12th Street, 1st floor, between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Applicants do not need to make an appointment. Three computer kiosk stations are available for use with instructions on how to apply online.
  • You have the opportunity to "cut and paste" your resume and cover letter or upload your resume into the system, in addition to completing an Application for Employment. If you don't have access to a word processing application, you can also build your profile (Profile Builder).
  • Once you have completed the online application, you will receive a confirmation message. This verifies your application is now in the MATCH system.
  • Resumes of qualified applicants will become part of our general database for future consideration, and will enable us to review qualifications as positions become available. However, if you indicate in your application that you do not want your resume and application to be viewable in the general database, then you will only be considered for the specific position for which you have applied.
  • If you are contacted by an Employment Office Representative or a hiring unit directly, you will be asked to sign the Application for Employment at the time of interview.
  • Please note that the application process is competitive. Applications are screened by the Employment staff as well as hiring units and only those applicants who appear to most closely fit the job requirements will be contacted for interviews. In the event you are not contacted, your resume will remain active for searches in our database for consideration for other job opportunities (if you have indicated that you want to be viewable in the general database) for one year.
  • In addition to interviews, further screening is conducted for some positions. This may include testing for knowledge of specific software packages or extensive background investigations depending on the type of position.
  • Should you encounter difficulty in accessing the MATCH system or should you require any further assistance, please contact our office at 212-998-1250.
  • Thank you for your interest in "experiencing excellence" and applying for a position at NYU.
