Resources That Can Help You Prepare for Advancement

New York University has a wide variety of resources that you can use to enhance your skills and advance your career. Take advantage of these opportunities to build your career at NYU.

Human Resources Division

The Office of Learning and Development

The Human Resources Division, through the Office of Learning and Development, offers an array of career and skill development programs. New programs are created frequently, so see the Professional Development Programs schedule.

Human Resources programs include the following:

  • Career Development program
  • "You Have the Interview- Now What?" program
  • "Resumes That Get You the Interview" program

A six-part series, tailored to NYU employees and offered at 100% tuition remission in conjunction with SCPS's Center for Career and Life Planning. (Employees pay 20% at the beginning of the series which is reimbursed upon successful completion.)

The Employment Office

The professional staff in the NYU Employment Office can be an invaluable resource during your career at the University.

You can call upon the staff to:

  • Give you an expert opinion, or help you to develop your resume and cover letter
  • Help you prepare for interviews
  • Assist you to focus your job search to maximize your effort

You can schedule a time to meet with a member of the Employment staff to discuss career related concerns by calling or visiting the office.

Human Resources Representatives

Each school and division at the University has a designated Human Resources Representative who is responsible for administering University human resources policies within your school or division. Your Human Resources Representative is also available to discuss career-related concerns including any interest that you have in seeking a transfer or promotion within your school or division.

Tuition Remission

New York University offers employees a unique opportunity to take courses through its tuition remission program. You can use tuition remission to:

  • Earn a degree; from an Associates to a Ph.D.
  • Take non-degree and certificate granting courses at the School of Continuing Education. These courses are usually offered at 80%.
  • Take job related courses with the approval of your supervisor at 100%.
  • Participate in skill-building courses such as computer literacy or communication courses.

Skill-Building Courses offered at 100% Tuition Remission

As part of the University's collective bargaining agreement with Local 3882 the following SCPS skill-building courses are offered to clerical and technical employees at 100% tuition remission. (Employees pay 20% at the start, and get reimbursed upon successful completion of the course.)

Center for Career, Education and Life Planning

The Center for Career, Education and Life Planning in the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) can support your career development at NYU. The Center offers individual career counseling and testing, and career related workshops to help you to clarify your professional goals. The Center also provides advisement on a broad range of courses, certificates and degree programs offered by SCPS for those interested in enhancing their careers through education.
