Application Process

Submit Your Application

Before you submit your application, it is important that you familiarize yourself with the type of accommodations we offer as well as our policies and procedures regarding initial payment and canceling your reservation. Applicants who are less than 18 years old or that do not wish to apply online may request a copy of the application booklet be sent by mail. Please review the "Applying Offline" section below.

Please note that once your application is complete, it currently typically takes four to six business days to receive a confirmation of your status.  If we are unable to process your application or if there is a problem with your application, we will notify you as soon as possible. Submission of an application does not guarantee that you will receive a Summer Housing assignment.

The application deadline for Summer Housing was 5:00 PM on Friday, March 28, 2008.

Availability Update:

As of Friday, July 18, 2008, we are no longer accepting applications for our 2008 program.

Applying Online:

In order to apply securely online, you must provide your New York University identification number and date of birth in order to initiate the application process.

Online Payment Options:
  1. Credit Card - American Express, Discover Card, and Master Card are accepted.  VISA is not accepted.  All payments made by credit card are processed for NYU by CheckFree. CheckFree will assess a nonrefundable convenience fee of 2.5% of the amount of the credit card payment to the cardholder.  Please note that upon entering credit card payment, the credit card payment will be processed.  If NYU Summer Housing is unable to offer housing, the credit card payment will be fully refunded (except for the nonrefundable convenience fee).
  2. Personal Check – Online check payments are processed for NYU by NoCheck, which will debit funds directly from a checking account. The checking account must be from a US based bank that allows ACH transactions. Applicants must have a blank check in order to provide their checking account number as well as their bank's routing number. Please note that upon entering payment, your checking account will be debited for the payment amount.  If NYU Summer Housing is unable to offer housing, the payment will be fully refunded. NYU will assess a $45 fee for any returned NoCheck payment.
  3. Payment by Mail - Applicants who wish to pay by money order or are unable to utilize other payment options may submit payment by mail. Payments by mail must be received by NYU Summer Housing within one week of application completion. Checks or money orders must be made payable to "New York University." NYU Summer Housing does not accept cash or wire transfers for initial payment. Applications are not considered complete until payment is received.

Note: Applicants under the age of 18 cannot apply online and must submit the printed application form with the signature of their parent or guardian.

Applicants that are under 18 years of age or that do not wish to apply online may download the pdf version of the 2008 Summer Housing application.

Please note: Due to high volume, we cannot confirm receipt of individual applications mailed or faxed to our office.  If you would like receipt of confirmation, we recommend that you either send the application via a delivery service that provides signature confirmation of receipt or that you apply online. 

Statement Regarding Use of Social Security Numbers:

NYU Summer Housing requires all non-NYU applicants with Social Security Numbers to use this number on their initial application, whether applying online or with the printed application form.  New York University uses the Social Security Number to generate a unique NYU identification number for each individual resident and/or student.  Once the NYU ID number is issued, the Social Security Number is not used again.
