Third North provides a welcoming and inclusive community for over 950 first-year students. To help facilitate the community, enhance your academic experience, plan events, and provide support, there are 28 Resident Assistants, 6 Peer Educators, 2 live-in professional staff, and 2 Faculty-Fellows in Residence (Joe Salvatore & Chat Gunter) with their families. The professional staff consists of a Community Development Educator (CDE) and an Assistant Community Development Educator (ACDE), both of whom have offices on the first floor main office and welcome any questions or concerns students may have.

Third North Residence Hall is one of seven FYRE (First Year Residential Experience) halls – a program that aims to provide supportive and inclusive first-year student communities that foster academic success, exposure to new ideas, leadership opportunities, responsible living, and personal growth. Third North is also home to five "Explorations" floors (a.k.a. theme floors or living-learning communities) where students can apply based on the themes Big Apple, Big Screen (film), Explorations Outdoors: NYC and Beyond, Pre-Health and Nursing, Politics and the Election of 2008, and Third Avenue North Theater Arts Company (3NTAC). We also house a CHOICES, or substance-free floor, on which students commit to a lifestyle without substances.

We have a wide range of facilities in Third North, including the Courtyard Café Dining Hall, the Coffee House (a place to study and socialize, open Sunday-Thursday nights with refreshments), a mini-theater, dance studio, exercise room, music practice rooms, game room, laundry rooms, TV lounge, many study lounges throughout the building, and an incredible outdoor courtyard at the center of it all. Our hall also features a very active hall government, called Third Avenue Government (TAG), who advocates for their fellow residents while also planning great events throughout the year. Finally, Third North is also home to several university-wide services.  The 24-hour computer lab is open to all NYU students and is located in the basement level and accessible through the 12th Street entrance.  The College of Arts and Science Learning Center is located on the Ground Level of the 11th Street entrance.  The central office for the Department of Residential Education can be found on the C2 floor off the 11th Street Entrance.
