Safety and Security
Safety and security are everyone's responsibility (link to Students section: Staff Services Offered), but this residence also has specific building security procedures:
- Stuyvesant Town Security polices the area. The buildings do not have doormen.

- All guests use intercom to contact their host's apartment and wait to be buzzed in.

Maintenance Concerns
Report maintenance concerns to Stuyvesant Town Resident Services at telephone number 212/253-3620. Service Requests should be submitted at the first sign of a problem. If there is damage in your room, do not repair it yourself. Skilled repair personnel will fix it for you. Preventative maintenance and routine repairs are done without charge, though you will be billed for any damage caused by your negligence or actions.
Emergency repairs include major leaks and flooding, inoperative door locks, and any problem that endangers safety or property. Any repair requests needed after office hours or on weekends should be reported to: Stuyvesant Town Resident Services, telephone 212-420-5000.
Dining Services
- Two blocks to dining room and late night snack bar at Third Avenue North. May use all Dining Services meal facilities
- All Housing meal plans including apartment-style only plans are available for extra convenience. Meal plans are not required.

Shipping packages before arrival: Do not send boxes or packages for arrival at your residence hall before you check in. You must be home to accept packages.
Room Features
- Stuyvesant Town is a secure enclave of approximately 90 high-rise buildings set in a park-like environment amid lawns, trees, and playgrounds. Apartment-style residences with full bath, kitchen, and dining area in each apartment.

- All bedrooms are private rooms in two bedroom apartments.

Kitchen
- Kitchen with refrigerator, stove, oven, sink, microwave oven, and dishwasher.
- Dining area with table and chairs.
- Residents provide their own cookware, dishes, and supplies.

Full bathroom with tub/shower in each apartment.
Furnishings
- Long (80 inch) twin beds, desk, dresser, and wastebasket for each resident.
- Dining table and chairs in kitchen area.
- Couch in living room area.
- Windows have shades.
- Hard floors in student rooms and suites.
Telephone
- Service is not provided. Students contract independently for telephone service. Residents provide their own telephones (no wall phones).
- Long distance service: residents contract directly with a carrier. Roommates are solely responsible for telephone bills and should agree beforehand about telephone use and payment responsibility.
Internet connections
Service is not provided. Students contract independently for internet service. Modem connections to NYUNet and the Internet can be made from all apartments, or from computers without Ethernet cards, by setting up an NYU dialup account and connecting a computer with modem to the phone jack and dialing in. For information get "NYU-Internet Start-Up" at any ITS computer lab on campus, or view it on-line at www.nyu.edu/resnet.
Cable TV
Service is not provided. Students contract independently for cable TV service. Residents provide their own televisions and connecting cables.
Cleaning
Housekeeping services are provided for common areas, such as corridors and lounges, only. It is each student's responsibility to maintain his/her individual room and all shared living spaces. Important: For safety reasons, residents are not permitted, and should not attempt, to clean residence hall windows from the outside. Exterior window cleaning is included as part of the University's routine building maintenance work.
Keys
Keys to rooms, suites, and mailboxes are issued to each resident during the check-in process. These keys must be returned when checking out of the residence hall. Residents will be charged to replace lost room or mailbox keys and to install matching locks. Residents are expected to carry room keys at all times. Room keys are not to be duplicated outside the University.
Laundry
Washers and dryers are located in the basement of each building. Any questions or problems related to the operation of the laundry facilities should be directed to Stuyvesant Town Resident Services at 212-420-5000.
Elevators
Elevators in the University's residence halls are routinely serviced and inspected. The University contracts with several companies to provide these services and to make any necessary repairs. If an elevator malfunctions while you are in it, press the alarm button and wait for instructions from the Department of Public Safety or the elevator repair service. They will be contacted immediately when a problem has been reported. Do NOT try to pry open the elevator doors or crawl out of the elevator. If you notice any irregularity in the operation of an elevator, report it immediately to the residence hall front desk. Service elevators should be operated only by authorized employees.

If your neglect or actions have created the need for repair, you will be charged for the resulting costs. General preventative maintenance and routine repairs are performed without charge to residents. Emergency repairs include major leaks and flooding, inoperative door locks, and any problem that endangers property or safety. In case of an emergency, contact the Residence Services Office at 212-253-3620 immediately.
Please note: The Department of Housing and the Department of Residential Education reserve the right to enter student rooms for emergencies, health and safety inspections, and general maintenance purposes. Since NYU residence halls are in service 12 months of the year, it may be necessary for the facilities staff to do painting or other work in your room during your occupancy. Every effort will be made to notify residents of such work in advance.
Room Painting/Construction
Students are not permitted to paint their rooms. Individual rooms are painted by the Stuyvesant Town Maintenance Department on a rotating basis. If a room is to be painted while occupied, the resident will be notified in advance. Lofts or other structural modifications to an assigned residence hall space are prohibited.
Storage
There is no storage space for students' use in public areas of the residence halls. Please do not bring more personal property than you can keep within your room. Students may not store belongings in the residence halls during the summer. Students who need or wish to store belongings during the summer are encouraged to use local commercial storage facilities. Information regarding commercial storage options will be made available in each residence hall prior to the end of the spring term.
