If you have not done so already please read the Division of Student Affairs summary describing the rationale, process, and intended outcomes for the lottery revisions.

Participation in an Office of Residential Education "Special Interest Housing" program is given top placement priority and those students will not participate in the lottery.

For lottery purposes the terms "sophomore", "senior", "junior", are NOT defined by academic credits earned, but are determined by the status a student has upon first entering the university. The presumption being that freshmen will need 8 semesters of housing. Transfers will need 4 semesters of housing. Priority for lottery will be determined by the number of anticipated remaining housing semesters.

2008 Lottery Priority (for building placement) Will Be Defined As:

Priority Group 1 (high priority)
"Sophomore" defined as a student with anticipated 6-7 remaining semesters in housing (students admitted to NYU as freshmen in fall 2007 or spring 2008).

Priority Group 2 (middle priority)
"Senior" defined as a student with 2-3 anticipated remaining semesters in housing (students admitted to NYU as freshmen in fall 2005 or spring 2006; Transfers admitted to NYU in fall 2007 or spring 2008).

Priority Group 3 (low priority)
"Junior" defined as a student with anticipated 4-5 remaining semesters in housing (students admitted to NYU as freshmen in fall 2006 or spring 2007).

Students may not change their priority based upon credits earned. For example a student who has been in housing for 4 semesters but is short credits giving them junior status may not be re-classified as a sophomore (or priority 1).

Students who wish to lottery with students with a different priority status than their own, will have an averaged rating.
