MIDDLE EAST
FOREIGN LANGUAGE &
AREA STUDIES FELLOWSHIPS

Arabic, Hebrew, Persian & Turkish

SUMMER & ACADEMIC YEAR

Graduate students from all disciplines who will be studying Arabic, Hebrew, Persian or Turkish are eligible for Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and enroll full-time in a graduate degree program at NYU ( the Graduate School of Arts and Science as well as the Graduate Schools of Business, Law, Education, and Public Administration).

For the academic year, the fellowship offers full-time tuition remission, plus stipend of approximately $10,000. Students who have completed coursework and are working on their dissertations may also apply for awards for research abroad (in Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Turkish) which offer maintenance of matriculation fees plus a stipend.

Summer FLAS awards are available for approved language programs in the U.S. which are equivalent to one year of study. FLAS awards may be used at approved programs outside the U.S. only at intermediate and advanced levels of language study.

Applications are available in November and due in January for study in the following summer and academic year.

Applications can be requested by contacting the Center at (212) 998-8877 or necenter@nyu.edu.
