DEPARTMENT OF MIDDLE EASTERN STUDIES

NYU has two distinct but closely related Middle Eastern studies programs housed within the same building and sharing activities, courses and faculty. The Department of Middle Eastern Studies offers an undergraduate major and minor and a Ph.D. program (including joint Ph.D.'s with other departments). The Hagop Kevorkian Center offers stand-alone masters programs, which can serve as preparation for entering a Ph.D. program or for other careers involving the Middle East.

Several other NYU departments offer the opportunity to specialize on the Middle East while focusing on a single discipline, including Anthropology, Comparative Literature, History, Politics and Sociology. Those interested primarily in the ancient Near East should also consider the Department of Classics and the Department of Hebrew and Judaic Studies, which in addition offers courses on modern Jewish history and culture. NYU's Institute of Fine Arts offers courses on Islamic art and on the art and archaeology of the ancient Near East.
