Institute for Law and Society Events

The Institute hosts and cosponsors a number of events throughout the academic year, allowing faculty and graduate students, from NYU and beyond, to meet, listen and discuss a broad range of sociolegal scholarship.

The main forum these exchanges is the Law and Society Faculty Collquium.

At this on-going colloquium series leading educators from the United States and abroad present their work to the NYU sociolegal community. Past talks have included: The Deployment of Law in Projects of Moral Regulation; Race, Gender, and Status in Law School Education; The Invention of Culture Through Law; and Democracy, Law, Violence: Comparative Perspectives.

In addition, the Institute sponsors regular conferences, such as The Culture of Choice in Law and Social Policy and Crossing the Vanishing Borders: Legality, State Power, and New Social Formations.
