The Department of Biomaterials and Biomimetics conducts basic research that bridges the gap between benchtop investigations and clinical applications with the ultimate goal of improving health worldwide. Central to these activities is our fully accredited Master of Science Degree in Biomaterials Science program. Graduates of the Master’s Program are expert in the fundamentals of biomaterials and biomimetic science, and most go on to rewarding careers in teaching, research, and industry.


Biomaterials, noun - The study of natural and synthetic materials used to fabricate artificial organs and tissues. Biomimetics, noun - The study of the structure and function of biological systems as models for the design and engineering of materials.
