Political
Science Graduate Student Association (PSGSA)
What is the PSGSA?
- The goals of the PSGSA are to
foster closer relations between graduate students and faculty members in
the department of politics and eventually to help students prepare for the
job market. All graduate students in the department are
automatically members of the PSGSA (although this does not necessarily
commit any student to active participation) and can stand and/or vote for
president or co-president. The PSGSA traditionally has two
co-presidents who organize student events and who also sit on the faculty
body that determine the teaching and research assistant placements.
- The hope is that the academic
community, which often is isolating, can actually be a community where
students benefit both socially and professionally.
What events do the PSGSA
organize?
- Weekly coffee hours for
graduate students and faculty members
- Several graduate student forums
in which students present their work for criticism and practice prior to
conferences. Faculty often attend and refreshments are served.
- Movie nights
- End of semester parties
- Student orientation at the
beginning of the academic year
- A listserv which provides
regular notices of departmental and university events, deadlines, news,
etc.
This year's officials of
the PSGSA
- Co-Presidents (2001-2002): Azi
Lev-On and Carmela Lutmar.
